Hi Guys,

I have got a ST2000DM001-9YN164-CC4C drive that wouldn't start properly and make some grunting noise as it can't find FW.
Drive was not dropped based on the customer info.
I backed up the ROM through terminal and ROM content looks fine with right serial numbers and model.
I opened the drive in a clean room and don't see any obvious damage on the heads or platters but looking under a microscope i found a tiny little bit of dirt on the HDA filter on one spot.
Do you think it is the heads?

I would swap heads, as seems that it's trying to catch servo and it can't.

What are the guideline for head swap for these new families? same as old seagate.
Same Model + Site code and close date?

A general question in regards to swapping heads for Seagate hdd's:
Are there any parameters that need to be transferred from the donor similar to the microjogs in WD?
or any other tune-ups that need to be done for heads-swap on seagate's?

There is a feature when working with ROM files to export and import specific head parameters, maybe this is useful? Ive never tried it myself, but could be useful and would be interesting to hear feedback on it also.

For head swaps, I would check head pattern if you have a microscope.

How do i find the Head Map for F3 drives, specially the new ones, Green and LP?
If the drives are not starting properly, how can i find the head map of it?
It is easy to see in WD, but how can i see it in SEAGATE F3, can i find it in the ROM?


Databalace, thanks for your reply, i assume you refer to the sticker on the Heads connector when you open the drive, but i need an indication to look for a donor to buy so this one is a bit of a problem to identify a donor online.

Headmap is in ROM on F3, also sometimes headmap is not specifically known and often you have an option of several maps - modify them all.

for the pattern, this relates to the actual shape of the design on the physical sliders. These are what allow heads to fly on air pressure, different patterns means different adaptives.
