Seagate ST3500320AS

Postby aribot » 31.10.11, 14:19

Hi,

i've got one HD wich starts with short scratch sound (sorry, I can't attach audio files, it's not allowed).
When running utility status the HHDD information is the following:
Model: ST3500320AS
Serial: 9QM367XM
Firmware: SD15
Capacity: 54,49 GB(114 270 345)

As you can see Capacity is wrong (should be 500GB (976773168) ).

When running HDD resources backup (ROM, CP, modules and ID pages) everything is saved and OK.

Testing heads result is:
Head 00 Resistance 00C1
Head 01 Resistance 00B7
Head 02 Resistance 00B4
Head 03 Resistance 0108

When viewing SMART, error HHD Readiness timeout (10000 ms) and HD enters in BSY mode.

I suspect that heads may be bad.
It's interesting to recover data, but not critical.

Any help to proceed?

Thanks.

Hello.

Tell me, have you tried to apply "Set max LBA" command on this drive? Please check my pictures below.

It's possible to access the module where MAX LBA is and modify it manually, and then write back modules?
