7200.4 Compatibility Problems

Hi All,

I have noticed a problem with some 7200.4 drives with head problems recently.

Matching a donor with part number, site code and other known matching techniques no longer seems to work. Donor heads causes the drive to make a "chirp" sound, very much like platter damage sounds but they work fine when returned to donor chassis. PCB + ROM swap makes no difference.

Has anyone overcome these problems?

L.

Hi,

It's a common issue now.
It's related to head incompatibility.

Is pretty much the same with all the 2.5" F3 series.

As far as I am aware the preamp version of both Patient and donor can be found with 'CTRL+L' at terminal (even if only PCB attached). This should confirm preamp code and (potential) compatibity.

I guess the problem is there is no external code or number that reflects this. The closest I would say is the Site code, but am not 100%.

Also, identifying preamp type is easy, knowing what it is compatible with is not :(

I just tried the CTRL+L command and it works great on assembled drives, but doesn't seem to work on loose PCB's for 7200.4's.
I've tested it on good and bad drives with same result.

When only using PCB, you can get to F3 T> by hitting ctrl-z (only when shorting pins), but since it stays busy, I haven't been able to hit ctrl-L without diag errors.

This is unfortunate, since it would be nice to find this info out on a current case I'm working on.
