DiamondMax 22 Rst 0x20M Error

Postby -BR- » 04.09.09, 00:55

Hi
F3 Arch hdd
model: STM3500320AS
fw: MX1A
p/n: 9GT154-326
pcb: 100466725 REV A DLAJ-4
smooth: 100501286

In terminal, drive spin, stays BSY, terminal shows only:
Rst 0x20M

Then after 15 sec it stop spindle.
Pcb gets really hot over smooth chip

I think it might be pcb related, but I am not sure because I don't have a identical match
All the ones I have use 100369972 smooth controller, while this one uses 100501286 smooth controller
If I try 100369972 pcb on it heads seems to knock, but now there is no smooth chip overheating

Does anyone have seen this problem before?

smooth controller is not so important for PCB swap. You just need to match MC Code. but sometime MC code is not same still compatible. if you want to test simply swap its ROM and see what happen. as long as it have same Family . Give it a test and you will know...
if possible post your PCB pic

I did tried nvram swap with a fully working board, no results
Got the same "Rst 0x20M" message
Only that time the pcb doesn't overheat
Customer have now confessed that he tried to swap boards before
Can it be that his board swap did damage the service area?

What happens if you isolate PCB and perform "2>Z" to spindown, then remove isolation and type "2>U". Do you recieve any error during spin up?

To close this case, we discovered that user sent this drive to a "data recovery" company first and they did change the original board
Also it turns out that the so called company opened the drive on their "clean room" and the heads did get dirty because of the high particle count over the media
I hate this companies that do not invest in real technology and just make things worse for their customers :x

Anyway, we solved the case when we received the original board, but a head replacement was also needed :D

Thanks for everyone that replied

Do you have good success in head replacement in 7200.11/diamondMax 22?
