Problems after Translation regen 5400.6

Postby bvreddy » 31.03.12, 18:50

Hi
I have hdd ST9160314AS , 5400.6 . Shows ‘0’mb capacity. Once I did translation regen then its detected fine with full capacity. But now initial part of the hdd reading without bad sectors , and rest of the entire hdd appearing as bad sectors.
In my case the first bad sector found at LBA 22799732 , and no good sector after that. When I read that bad sector with ’ utility command’ its having some data , but from 22799509 to 22799731 are all ZEROS are found. I think these are the additional defects that needs to add in Glist or Sliplist.
Using G6c,xxxxxx command I added this sector range (223 ) in to Alt list, then did translation regen with ‘defects transfer from alt list’ . Now the status is 22799509 to 312 581 808 (end ) all are bad sectors but data present at 22799509 and onwords (verified few thousands) . Is this the right way to handle this. After that how to know what was the next real bad sector ( which was used to generate translator at factory ). Because every sector manual verificatiion for 00s or 77s is not practical.
What I expected was once I did the translation regen with alt list then bad sectors may disappear ( atleast up to next real bad sector), but in my case so such outcome.
Need help
Thanks in adavance

Thanks for the replay

i gone through it.In my case the problem is LEFT FORK. The first bad sector( 22799509) i found is having some data but before that there are 223 sectors are with zeros. All the sectors(223) with zeros are added in to sliplist. Now how to find the next real bad sector? is it by verifying each sector content manually (through utility command )?
Thanks for any suggestions
