SEAGATE BUILD HEAD MAP - ST9100823A

Hi to all,

I notice when i build head maps in a seagate drive is taking about 3 hours to finish.


Anyone knows if is possible to do it faster ?

Some cases you can create LDR from drive, and through utility actions you can enable 'allow ATA - PCHS conversion' or similar option. Now when you initialise LDR through utility actions and select head map creation, you can select 'ATA' button.

this works on all .10 drives, not sure about your drive. Let us now if this wors for you.

Maybe you're using a very low baud rate.

Even if baud rate is increased from 9600 to 38400, or even 921000 the Head Map creation is still very slow. For faster creation you need to create map in ATA mode, this requires you to modify App code in RAM to allow PCHS-ATA conversion. Not available for all drives as far as i know.

thanks AJ2008,

with that i can make a head map in a minute or less.

But some models i am having problems.
