Seagate Momentus 5400.6 HDD Lock & 0gb problem

Postby StevenH » 21.07.12, 20:44

We have a Momentus 5400.6 model ST9500325AS, which gives the HDD Lock (LED: 00000CC) and Translation Violation (0gb) errors when PC-3000 utility starts. We have a couple of questions:

1. We are not certain which contacts to short when performing the HDD Lock fix. I have attached two photos, one showing the chip side and the read-write channels we believe to be the correct ones. The other photo shows the contacts we think correspond to those on the other side of the board. Are these the ones to short during the fix?

2. This drive spins when starting up, but only when in BSY. When it enters drive ready state it stops spinning. Am I correct to think the HDD Lock fix can only be done when the drive is spinning? Can we do it when the drive is in BSY state?

I'd like to know the progress as well. We currently have a Momentus with the same problem and nothing we do will fix it.

We tried Translation Violation, did not work
We tried 00CC fix, did not work.
We tried Translator Repair, did not work.

Is there anything else that may help?

Looks like will have to. Got some ideas from DeepSpar site though. Trying those out.

Thanks gterry,

Thanks gterry,

I post over there too. Are you just trying to clear the password? Did you try this I've been using Tools-Service Information-Work with service area-Reset Passwords it even tells you what the password was.

No. This is whats going on

In DDI the HD gives out a red error 0 Bytes. In PC3k the HD gives a Drive Not Ready Error in Red, although it does know the make, model, Serial number and firmware version of the hard drive. I replaced the Head Stack Assembly and it gives the same problem. The Patient's Head Stack Assembly works inside the Donor HD perfectly.

We are still trying to find a solution to the problem. Although, it is getting to the point that the HD may have media damage.
