What do you think?

Postby Loki » 12.07.12, 19:07

Hi,

I posted this on the hddguru forum & was wondering if you have any plans of implementing this?

http://forum.hddguru.com/what-you-think-t23454.html

I was thinking yeah I know I shouldnt
But it seems to me that the idea of the Global Solutions used for the PC3000 Flash SSD could be used for an AceLab managed firmware database. Which could be included in your yearly support & accessed through the PC3000 UDMA software. That way users can upload firmware & make it a lot easier to find those elusive little buggers that are hard to find. Also as the database expands in time it will make the service better & better. Currently it can be very hit & miss to find the correct firmware & something like this would be extremly benifitial to AceLabs customers. I know this forum has a section for firmware downloads but its not as big as it could be.

Post here what you think & maybe you never know AceLab might think its a good idea & make it happen

Hello Loki.

Thank you for that idea, we have already discussed that with our authorities and I believe some day that will appear.
I dont think that would appear as a website with the links to resources, but idea about big shared database you can take
necessary resources is certanly of current interest.
With best regards

I just had a similar idea in my head.

I usually save firmware on hard disk which is difficult to handle as there is no search feature.
1. I would like an Automatic way to take all my !profiles and put them in the database.
2. Secondly i can choose to share my resources from within the database. So i can click the resources i want to upload to Acelabs server, click upload and the utility takes care of the rest. I just have to wait some hours for the upload to finish.
3. I get bonuses from Acelabs for uploading my firmware first :-) Motives make the world go round.

How do you think about that ?
Sometimes you loose a case if you can't find the neede firmware within a specific timeframe.

Hi,
I hope i'm not bringing up a dead tread, I posed this question to a friend of mine who is a developer and he asked what are the fields of data that needs to be collected regarding the search criteria (e.g. Drive brand, Model, Firmware, etc) to determine the linking to a firmware file. We can work on developing a proof of concept with everyone's help.
