Transformation, can't get the numbers to sum up right. What am I missing?

Hi. Can anyone tell me if this is wrong, or if I just don't get it right..

It's a 16 GB Transcend USB-stick, SM3255 controller, chip marking K9CDG08U5A, Chip ID 0xECD798CA - which I've read sucessfully.

Chip reports: Page: 8640 bytes (16 sectors), Block Size 3072 sectors (192 Pages) x8

The following ECC is found:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Detect ECC for PAGE = 8640 bytes [6]
- 0 [1066]
- 1066 [1066]
- 2132 [1066]
- 3198 [1066]
- 4264 [1066]
- 5330 [1066]
- 6396 [1066]
- 7462 [1066]
- 8528 [26]

Further on XOR ID 316 is detected by PC3000, and suggest the following transformation:

(512[DA]+512[DA]+42[ECC])*8+26[SA]

But... That should be a total of 8554, and not 8640...

So, I found a couple of solutions for this USB Flash which didn't work out, they suggested the following transformation:

Page size 8640
Sector size 538
Structure
0-512;8528-26;
512-512;8528-26;
1066-512;8528-26;
1578-512;8528-26;
2132-512;8528-26;
2644-512;8528-26;
3198-512;8528-26;
3710-512;8528-26;
4264-512;8528-26;
4776-512;8528-26;
5330-512;8528-26;
5842-512;8528-26;
6396-512;8528-26;
6908-512;8528-26;
7462-512;8528-26;
7974-512;8528-26;

But at least it gives the total of 8640..

So.. what am I missing? Does PC3000 Flash suggest wrong transformation, or am I thinking wrong?

All help appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

I understand Roman. I will do if I can't solve the case myself.

But this was more a general question about if "I'm thinking wrong" or if "PC-3000 is sugesting wrong XOR/Transformation".

Thanks

Transformation looks correct. The summ of ECC ranges is 8554, but physical page size is 8640. Difference only in FF bytes in the end of each page.

Ok, thank you Roman. I´ll give it a try, and come back to you if any problems.

Thanks

To illustrate what Roman described. In Page Designer, go to a page with data (random sector search) at the bottom of the page the bytes not covered by ECC will be FF or 00. If you highlight the last marker, that is where the data should stop. Or highlight the remaining bytes left over and again this will show you if you have missed anything. It's my way of making sure you have the layout right. Hope that helps.

Thank you, I understand now :)
