I have an older reader w serial # 001065 with ver 2.0 an the letter w on white stickers. Software is version 7.0.4.3391. The flash reader initializes and it sees the chip but all tries at id come up red. The chip will not id. However a data recovery shop down the road can id this chip and recover all data using an ACE reader. The chips are from a 2 chip 64GB Kingston thumb drive with chip marking FD32B08UCT1. The second chip will also not id. The reader will identify an older chip marked 29F32G08CFACA without problems. Do I need a newer reader?

Thanks
Gordon

Changer software to version 7.0.6.4006. Changed to shorter usb cable and connected to native usb 2 on another computer. No luck. Can the chip not id and still be made to read by assigning an id to it? Is id necessary before a successful read?

If it isn't reading, it suggests that it isn't getting a good connection, for whatever reason. If you are 100% sure it isn't an issue with the chip, it must be an issue with the reader.
