Samsung 850 PRO

Postby starling » 05.01.17, 17:30

I have a good working Samsung 850 PRO 256GB drive and when I enter Samsung SSD utility the drive goes into BSY and gives "Techno mode error; Drive is not ready" error in the log.
Safe mode initialization also doesn't work and gives "Safe mode .... Error".
Is this normal?

Hello! Are you sure that your drive is Samsung 850 PRO, but not 950 Pro?
Also, can you send for us pictures of front and back side of drive PCB?

In Universal utility everything works fine.

Yes, it's a new modification. We have the same right now in our developers lab. We will add it in support list soon, don't worry :)

Thanks.
I have another one. Also 850 PRO, also in good working condition but this one is 512GB and about 1 year old.
It accepts techno mode key, enters safe mode but does not allow to load loader.
The drive just goes into BSY and never comes back. See screenshot and PCB photo below.

It happens because current two modifications of LDR are not compatible with version of FW on your drive. We will add 2 or 3 new LDR in next version. Just need to wait.

I'm seeing more 850 PRO and EVOs coming in these days. Hoping to see a solution sometime soon. :D

Is there any support for the M.2 version of the Samsung 850? It appears somewhat similar to the SATA version but I have not been able to get it into safe mode and it seems to lack the contact points (holes) for terminal access.

Are there any news with S4LN062X01 Controller?
For now not supported in Utility.

I have 850 EVO and PRO.
Safe Mode and Terminal are not working on my 850 EVO.

Because it's not supported.

Starting from the Samsung 850 EVO, Samsung company completely lock the internal firmware modification and techno mode options. Right now without a digital signature, we can't influence on such drives via Utility.

Maybe someday.
