Micron mtfddak256may
We have a Micron mtfddak256may in house, assuming it is a Crucial drive. It does not come ready, is this drive supported with the latest SSD add-on?

Hello! This drive is supported in current version of PC-3000 SSD. But for working with this drive we have to get READY state. I recommend you to leave this drive plugged to power supply for 1-2 hours. Sometimes it goes in READY state after some time.

Hi Roman,
This may be a dumb question, I have not gotten too deep with many solid state drives. The drive will not come ready at all, left it powered on overnight, is this something that could be done with the PC3000 Flash, pulling the chips, read them and reassemble the volume?

No, it will not help, because Marwell CPU completly crypt all data with AES algorythim. If you will unsolder chips, and will try to read it with PC-3000 Flash, you will find that all data is encrypted trash.
I recommend you to do two things:
1. Put your SSD in hermetic plastic case and put it in freezer. Wait for 2-3 hours untill drive will not be cold down to -15..-25C, and try to plug. Sometimes freezing might help to read data from wear NAND chips and drive will pass initialization. Better to leave drive freezed!
2. If it will not help, try to drop some flux between chips and PCB, and then - warm with hot air gun. Maybe it's a problem with some BGA contacts on your SSD PCB.
I recommend you to do two things:

Thank you for the info Roman, while on this subject, would the same hold true for the Samsung 850 EVO we have as far as data being encrypted?

Yes, you can try the same with Samsung 850 EVO, but such trick usually does not work with this family

It is commonly known that flash based storage does respond well with temperature changes, specifically colder temperatures, unlike the 'myth' that it helps traditional disk drives.
As an example, the next NAND you try to read that has excessive read errors, freeze the chip with freezer spray while reading and watch how reading quality improves.

I wasn't denying the validity of it, I've used heat/cold plenty of times for flash cases over the years. It's just funny hearing an Ace engineer tell someone to put it in the freezer.
