Hitachi Deskstar motor/spindle seizure

Postby DCC-PC3K » 13.12.20, 09:47

Hi all,

I have a Hitachi Deskstar (HDP725050GLA360) that is making beeping sound and doesn’t sound like it can spin up. I have opened the case and the motor/spindle is seized and cannot move freely. Heads inspected and look OK.

I know there are tools available for some seagates with stuck spindle, but anything for Hitachi? Is my only option a platter swap?

On a side note is a beeping drive always an indicator of problem with motor/spindle even if the drive is spinning up, or could beeps (not clicks) also be heads issue?

Thanks!

If motor is siezed then you need to move platters. Forced freeing of spindle might allow motor to free but if bearings are damaged it may not spin evenly and cause more serious issues
