HTS723216L9A360 Tech mode

Postby avalanche » 28.03.17, 17:48

Hello,

I have a HTS723216L9A360 in, plus a good match donor. It is not possible to select or autodetect the correct tech mode for this HDD. Has anyone successfully got these to work correctly in utility?

Best regards,
J.

avalanche, did you try 7232A7 family? What was the result? Is Techno Key recognised :?:

Hello Sergey, thank you for your reply.

Yes I have tried 7232A7, it does not work.

I have tried all tech modes for the 2.5" ARM families, checking "Tech Key Detection" either on or off does not make a difference. On the donor HDD I have the model number, serial, firmware and capacity are reported OK as it is a fully working HDD.

On the patient HDD I just get ABR errors but not clicking (it does not sound like the head assembly is tracking, as if NVRAM content is either incorrect due to wrong PCB or corrupt.) I could do with being able to read the NVRAM to check if the serial number inside is correct to the drive's label.

OK well I have established what the fault in the patient HDD is - bad/failed ROM content. NVRAM content on the patient is fine. For the purposes of this recovery getting the HDD into a tech mode is no longer required. However, it is worth noting for the future that this model of Hitachi does not get recognised.

avalanche, guess I was wrong! Most probably it's not IBM-ARM drive at all! Try Hitachi-IBM utility --> Custom families --> HTS7232L9 :)

Yes, you are correct. Custom family setting required. Now have SA access. Thanks.
