Hi
Can someone tell me the procedure for hot swap of PCB for Hitachi 2.5" disks?
I have patient HTS547575A9E384 which does not spin the disk but It reach DRD status and I have made to backup NV-RAM and ROM.
I have donor PCB same disk different firmware but PCB is same all symbols on label match. Donor is made in Sept 2012 and patient Jan 2012.
Thanks

Re: Hot Swap Procedure
You looking to hot swap or just replace the PCB?
Re: Hot Swap Procedure
I want to replace PCB with donor.
Re: Hot Swap Procedure
It sounds like you could have issue with ROM itself if it reaches DSC DRD without spindle starting. You can physically move the chip to a suitable donor PCB, or write it through the PC3000 suite. Write it to the PCB you have then try this to at least check that it spins.
Other option is to isolate contacts for head assembly between HDA and PCB with some paper then start drive and see at this point if spindle can start (without head assembly attached) - if it does then your problem could be a physical one.

Thank you AJ2008
Then it stay that I will need to resolder orig ROM to donor PCB because Hitachi utility in PC3K cannot write ROM only read it.
And one more question when I resolder ROM to donor PCB do I have to write NV-RAM from orig PCB to donor???

Hello ,
If You Desolder Patient ROM From Patient PCB And Solder Patient ROM in Donor PCB You Do Not Need To Do This .Best of Luck

Hi
I have made. The heads where stucked on platters, so I unstick them and drive initialize properly with original PCB, and all data saved.
Case closed!

Usually you can recognize those cases by putting your ear up to the drive the first time you power it on. Should hear a faint beep or hum for a second.
