Hi Guys,

I have a Samsung 2.5" HM500JI/U which had faulty heads.
I swapped the heads and not getting the LED terminal messages anymore, but now the drive stays busy and give me the following terminal messages, so i am assuming a firmware corruption, did anybody experienced something similar to that?

try starting drive with headmap changing in RAM, hope it will help.

thanks mate, already tried that before posting, getting the same result.
there are 2 lines in the log that may indicate the fault:
Boot Sector Error! Take a default.
and
Overlay file read bad

it is probably some overlay problem loading but i am not familiar enough with these drive to identify the problem, hope someone here in the forum can help.

how many heads this drive is ?
if 4 heads have you tried all different combination of headmap ?
if 2 heads, than only option left is hotswap...

it has 4 heads, tried all the head map options.
also tried hot-swap, didn't work either, but the firmware is different between the donor and patient so probably that's the reason.

Problem reading MOVLY001 module. Use donor MOVLY001 and make sure that MOVLY001 match ROM as well. If you replace ROM by donor ROM/PCB you should make sure that MOVLY001 match the same version of ROM. If MOVLY001 is damaged (most likely your case) you need to make sure that you get correct version of it to write to the drive. If you do have bad sectors on SA you might need to change MOVLY001 location on FIT, etc ...

Thanks mate, i kept on researching it and managed to access the SA using hotswap after all using another donor and backup as much modules as i could - luckily i got MOVLY001 from Head 3 and managed to re-write it successfully to Head 0 copy, now i get access and started imaging, but drive is highly unstable so hopefully it will be good before this set of heads die again

this drive is super weird, i started imaging and did about 10% in good speed, then started to slow with many errors, i thought that the heads are getting weak as a result of a platter damage, so i used second donor to swap heads and put the heads back to the first donor.
With second set of heads imaging is still super slow speed as before, and the donor which i put back the heads is running without a single error - weird case.
As it progress i'll be 70 yo when its done, bummer.
