WD My Passport doesn't initialise over USB PCB anymore after Slow Responding Problem fix applied

WD40NDZW-11BCSS0 Feb 2022. I converted to SATA PCB and applied the slow responding problem fix, then reattached the USB PCB to continue imaging. The drive would no longer initialise with the USB PCB attached, but would just fine using the SATA PCB (but only encrypted data available). I put the SATA PCB back on, reversed the slow responding problem fix, and it still wouldn't initialise over USB PCB. I then compared the current Mod02 to the original untouched Mod02 and there was just one byte difference at 0x057A, a 01 was now 03 (there was also a byte difference in the checksum as expected).
I changed this byte back to 01, recalced checksum and it would initialise again over USB PCB. Has anyone had this before? Is this 01 - 03 some sort of important flag?
