This is Spyglass2 and it's locked in new way.
Your best bet is to try and recover it in its original USB PCB.

We have done a few of these v2 Spyglass

You can use the SATA PCB for the v1 to gain SA access (turn off relo collect & relocation in HDD ID) and build head map in DE, then switch back to USB PCB

We use PC3000 Portable with the USB Host to access the drives, create a new DE task then copy the head map created in the previous task with SATA PCB

Clone away

I'm dealing with my first of these (a 5TB model) now. Let me know if there's a better way, but here are a few extra details that have cost me a lot of time:

1) When building the headmap as a SATA drive, make sure that you don't start it as a 4K sector drive, or the map won't match the later USB version correctly. (Make a regular 512b sector map as the SATA drive to copy to the USB DE project). (I'm not sure if there's a way to fix that if the SATA headmap was already created in 4K, but I was getting 'catastrophic errors' due to that until I had the 512b regular headmap.)

2) When setting up the USB DE project, make sure the USB drive is started in pc3k WD utility, start DE, choose the pc3k utility version, and then I had to choose the 2nd option "Use Ata read sectors ext (0x24) through SCSI ATA Translation", otherwise I couldn't see all the data when DE Browsing. After starting the project, I shut the project down (to allow changing the headmap file), then copy the head.map file from the SATA project's version to the USB project's spot, then reopen the DE USB project with the copied headmap file.

Without these settings right, it would be easy to miss a ton of data, since some will show up, but a lot of it won't.

Just to be clear. That does not work on Spyglass2.

What part of it doesn't work?

Can you create a head map with a Slyglass2?

This is my first one, and the recovery isn't finished, but if the WD50NDZW-11MR8S1 is indeed a 'Spyglass2' drive, it certainly seems to have allowed a headmap to be built while using SATA PCB.

Yes that is Spyglass2. So good to know.

it's not OK because Relo-list has different from previous Marvell families structure.
The research of this isue is in progress now.

I have a WD40NDZW-11MR8S0 SpyGlass2 drive (firmware 02.01A02) and can create a head map, but it's completely wrong. It only maps a tiny fraction of the sectors to 2 out of 10 heads.

How were you able to create a head map?
