Anyone had luck with NMVW heads in these? Tried some that I had here that seemed like they could be a good match and they aren't working, but of course work great when put back into the donor.

You are looking at the totally wrong part of the model. You should be focusing on the part after the dash. I've been keeping track of WD families by their codes on this page for quite some time: https://www.data-medics.com/forum/ident ... -t636.html

As you can see from my list YL9 is PebbleB family and you should be able to match from any other PebbleB model with the correct part of the DCM code, site, head map, and a close enough date.

So far, I haven't seen a PebbleB or Spyglass with a DCM on the label :(

That's true. My comment was more of an in-general statement. Obviously you've got to work with whatever is actually available. I don't think there's too many variations in the heads used with these newer WDs either. In more recent drives I've been finding heads from 1 to 2 years off are still working fine. So DCM is probably unnecessary to even match.

Indeed. At least RWinters won't go crazy looking for a DCM that isn't there :)

Thanks for the replies, yes I am well aware of family codes, but I have had a lot of luck jumping families in the past. Yes, I did notice the DCM is gone, and ever since I have seen a DCX it seems pretty useless from what I can tell.

Anyways, I have some C3NS heads that are giving the same symptoms (3 clicks delayed between each other follow by spin down) as the patient heads YL98. Even with SA + Mod 30 blocked it wants to click and spin down? Patient heads where in pretty good shape under microscope so i dont suspect serious platter damage, the ramp did make some contact along the edge as is common with drops or rough handling of these.

Patient isn't killing parts...as they work just perfect back in their original housing.

Sorry I totally forgot to update on this: Full recovery was achieved with a matching WD30NMRW-11YL9S4 (basically label wise, a perfect match)
