WD20EARX - head issue - can't edit the head map in RAM

Postby AdasRip » 25.09.20, 12:48

I have case - WD20EARX-00PASB0. The owner had previously given it to an ordinary computer repair shop.
There they opened it without a clean room. They scratched the top plate and left fingerprints on it.
The heads looked like they had been torn from the ramp.

So far I have ignored the top surface condition. I swap the donor heads to see if it would ever start.
Unfortunately, it did not move. Heads clicking and spin off so I guess H5 fell.

I tried to edit the head map in RAM. However, LDR upload is needed for this.
When I try to load module 11 I get an error message.
Permanent ovl (11) data uploading Device Error Detected: "Unknown error. Error code: BFA0"

5c is loaded correctly.

When I transferred the heads back to the donor, the donor doesn't start anymore either :(

What is problem?

IMO: Media damage to the patient drive which is killing the donor heads.

AdasRip, Indeed, you need to remove any dust and dirt from inside first, then try new heads and RAM head map changing.

After peeling off the sticker from the inspection window, it turned out that the surface under the H0 head was filed.
