WD15EARX - incorect capacity

Postby AdasRip » 10.03.17, 17:11

Hello.
I have case WD15EARX-00PASB0. Disk start almost correctly. The name is ok but instead 1.5TB presents itself as a 500 GB.
These 500 GB is normally available.
I have no ideas on this hdd.

Perhaps someone set an HPA on the drive. Do you have PC-3000?

Thank you for quick reply.
Yes, I have PC-3000. Nobody set an HPA... it's my own old hdd. I set manually max lba, wrote to SA and supposedly is ok.

I know I've at times used the set LBA function to make a bigger destination drive match the size of the drive I cloned to it. For some encryption systems you actually need to do that. Perhaps you did that and forgot?

I used this disk to store old tasks. I changed anything there. Maybe something mixed up with age :)

AdasRip, if it's an old drive, the system heads can die slowly, and they can write the wrong data into the SA. It's not safe to use this drive for important data storage I suppose :)
