Pretty much any drive with an external U12 ROM chip doesn't save a backup copy of the ROM in SA. The modules are there, but they are usually blank.

You indicate the ROM chip is dead. Have you tried to remove it and read it in a EEPROM reader?

Why and how is ROM chip dead, have seen many "butchered" chips but no dead ones.
Missing pins can be dealt with, post som pictures or explain better.

For test you can write a donor rom to a FBlite family hard disk and then try to access to SA and read the modules and rom.

Never had a dead or missing ROM on a FBlite, so rebuild from SA has not been a problem yet.
My price for recovery goes up when original pcb is missing and then PCB its suddenly not missing any more.

Dear MAXIM please surprise us with a new method for recovering ROM in FBlite family! in fact almost all of new WD hdd's are FBlite with 771961 board and it seems this family has unique ROM like seagate hdd's. so it's very important to find a way for rebuilding ROM from SA in this common family. i'll be glad to hear a good answer from ACE's technical support.
thanks a lot

hard plus, in my experience the most hard issue is that Dir in ROMs has the different address, unique for each drive.. That's why even if we found good ROM, SA will be still invisible.

Why ,
Remember the 4th case thats still open in TS .If me can find a comp rom and then read the tracks and your tool can find dir address in the tracks and feed it in the rom issue is solved maxim my dear

Dear
Amarbir[CDR-Labs], I still got no answer regarding this case from you

Were you able to get more modules in the tracks using "Search nested modules" checkbox?
