As far as you can see from latest PC-3000 UDMA 4.7 change log , current WDC Marvell usb utility supports com-port connection.
This could help to reach the SA modules on WD drive, when hard drive is not identified by operational system.

Here is the connection for WD USB 2.0 drive:

Hard drive has 6 pins in one row. So, PC-Toshiba adapter is connected, and three pins are left free. Please check the picture above.

Here is the connection for WD USB 3.0 drive

Hard drive has two rows of 6 pins. PC-TOSHIBA adapter has to be connected onto top row. The drive position has to be same, it is on picture.

As soon, as new manuals for PC-3000 WD USB utility will be ready, it will appear in personal update box, manuals Western Digital section.

What operations can be made through com-port in WD?

Can be used to assist data recovery? or confirm diagnostic problems?

Thanks

Well, com-port is used to transfer common ATA commands. If the drive has healthy SA and there are no hardware problems you could even read user data from it.

I did not seem to get a PC-Toshiba adapter in the box (either of the 2 I bought)

Should we have gotten one of these?

Thanks

Connected the wd USB drive with com-port and get access to SA, model and serial number correctly, but not by USB and OS. How to mirror the drive by com-port? Tried data extractor, could not detect by port 1 and 2, but no USB port. Also, can I use heads map to mirror drive by USB port? Thx

Ok Worked out the com port connection, but I cannot seem to image the drive through DE either. i can see sectors through the utility (sector editor) but not through DE. Is there a trick to this?

Hi

No more info about this possibility?
What can we do with terminal? Can someone do a manual?
Or is it already on ACE manual (I can't see it there...)
Thanks

With terminal its possible to access SA over serial. also its possible to read sectors over serial but at serial speed, also will read encrypted.

I sometimes use serial to access utility and read SA before SATA conversion to allow easy restore of ROM without soldering (I prefer this method since Shasta models with internal ROM)

Hi AJ

But how to use it?
Is there anything on the manual about this? Where can I find more info?
Because I have a USB drive to work with, and if I could get this to work without the need of a PCB, ROM swap, etc, it would be great.

Thanks
