Hello,
i got a WD10TMVW-11ZSMS5. transfered ROM (U12) to compatiable SATA PCB (771814 - 771820). there is also a U14 chip on the USB PCB, dont know if that's relevant.
The drive spins up for a few seconds then spins down, it does that 5 times and then stops. no clicks, no noises. i confirmed heads are good by transfering them to a compatiable donor drive and they work great.
Could this be corrupted ROM? and if so what can i do?

Did you check if PCB is original?

Thank you for replying,
How do you mean? it's a PCB i took from a different drive that works. the original PCB is USB.

CNR, try to block SA access in ROM and power the drive. Will it still spin down?

Hey Maxim,
I blocked SA access with this procedure just now: https://blog.acelab.eu.com/pc-3000-for- ... ccess.html
Same spin down 5 times.

Oh, the drive was in no other shop before according to the client and I didn't see any signs of tempering on the PCB or drive, so I'm assuming it is original. Is there another way to confirm this?

Search for WWN from drive label in ROM will confirm if ROM is native
