Yeah, you can cut away the material if you want. I've probably done 60 recoveries with this exact board and never had an issue though. It just bothers your OCD because it doesn't fit right. But it works just fine.
Re: List of compatible SATA PCB for 2,5" USB drives
I think there's yet another variation of the 701675 series. Besides the
701675-004 rev P1 (ext ROM) = 701672-004 Rev A (This seems most common in my stacks)
701675-001? (no ext ROM) = 701609-004
there is also a:
701675-002 Rev P1 (ext ROM) also with same 88i9045 chip but that is not compatible with 701672-004 (at least not with lots of them). I used to have a one that worked and I can't seem to find it now while dealing with it again. Unfortunately I didn't write the numbers down for that one. I seem to remember the last 3 digits on the bottom right of the main chip NOT being BOY or BOP, but instead starting with an "A", though I could be wrong, and I'm not sure if that was really a determining factor.

Yes. I've been keeping an updated list of all compatible SATA boards to replace USB ones on this thread: https://www.data-medics.com/forum/wd-pa ... e-t13.html
However you need to remember to deal with the encryption after you swap it.

New compatible boards have been added, thanks DataMedics

Well,
One ROM Is For USB Controller ,That Does Not Require To Be Shifted ,Other ROM You Will Have To Shift

Re: List of compatible SATA PCB for 2,5" USB drives
CS DATA RECOVERY, U12 is a drive ROM chip. U14 is USB ROM chip. If you want to move the ROM, move U12.
If there is only U14 in a donor, read the U12 from patient using Boot-ROM mode or a common reading via the utility, and write it in donor PCB instead of internal original one if their sizes are equal.

Re: List of compatible SATA PCB for 2,5" USB drives
I see from this thread: https://www.data-medics.com/forum/rom-o ... 65-10.html
that you were able to solve it using a 771693-006 REV P PCB.
Unfortunately this is never an exact science, it usually takes a bit of trial and error with various revisions until you find the right one.

Re: List of compatible SATA PCB for 2,5" USB drives
Coincidentally I did find one pairing where although electronically compatible, it really won't work unless you cut the PCB to fit.
771962 --> 771960
The 960 board is slightly too wide to fit inside the outside lip of the drive.
