MC must be faulty

The status register shows DWF flag - this is common symptom of damage to MC and often this error is presented during attempts to work over ATA.

You need to work over terminal only - save important modules including translator, clear translator which will rebuild MC, restore translation system via the backup taken before the translator regeneration.

My advice is: If you need data - DO NOT do this.

Well,
Correct my advise to him would be reach terminal and then check defect list he will note its overfull with defects he needs to clear it in terminal ,Then reach c level and work with MC and Also Reach level 7 and work with dos config level clear it .

PS : in few cases i have seen you cannot take a backup of anything until you do this :D

Why would you advise this? MC is part of translator so it cannot be cleared without loosing access to data, but retaining original copy of translator module (which includes MC defects) for restoration after repair will prevent this.

Unfortunately, translator regeneration clears entries in MC system file and 90 GB of Media Cache area. We can write back the MC system file, but can't write back content of MC area.
Rosewood drives use write-back media cache approach, where data is stored in the MC only, and transfer blocks from MC to user area is performed when new cache blocks appear.
If we clear the MC zone we can lost the latest timestamped data on the drive (for long ago several months)

Translator is built with these MC defects included, so restoration of original translator table (where these MC entries are written) should restore access to lost data
