ST1000DM003-PN: 9YN162-500-FW: CC4B stays BSY-Terminal lock

Postby jojo2012 » 05.10.17, 15:23

Hi guys,
I’m handling this case, which I can’t figure this one out.

After power ON it spin up with no noise or clicking sound but stays BSY, terminal locked and terminal output looks like main problem is damaged media cache.

I was able to unlocked terminal (using the shorting of spindle motor and detached PCB), so I did the backup of some critical sys file (Translator, NRG-list, P-list).
93 sys file I was able to read and switch off all SMP flags ticks except the top one and write to disk……the BSY is still ON.

I tried to read the Sys file 346, but I get a error, so I loaded it from another Grenada but when I try to write to disk I get error…same for the 181-182 sys file (see attached)

If someone give me an advice I’d be most grateful

Thanks so much in advance

Are you sure the changes to System file 93 actually took? Try reading it back again and see if the changes you made are still there. Also, try checking (not unchecking) the box that says "disable idle activities", sometimes that can lead the drive to be stuck busy.

Hi Jared,
I managed to read it and write it only once, after I got the write errors you see in the attachment.

Now I’ll try again. Regarding "disable idle activities" I leave it always enabled because I have noticed improvements during the cloning phases.

ACE TS said that the translator is damaged.

I’ll let you know….thanks so much.

Hi,
fortunately, I was able to save the ROM and most important SYS files.
I was able to read ROM and SYS files just once, but I could not write them. After the various tests /checking (even remotely) these files have become unreadable.

Replace the heads and we had access to the SA, but SYS files 93 and 28 were unreadable.

We had to rewrite the SYS file manually via terminal with goods heads, and had to regen translator as it was damaged.
