As you may know, we have 7 known situations when we can't recover translator automatically by Recover translator feature on Seagate F3 drives. One of such situations is caused by a known bug of Seagate FW as P-list entry duplication. In this post I will show you how to easily recognize such situation and how to deal with that. All info is based on a real case which was solved by technical support engineer.

Initially problem was that 250 Gb ST3250312AS drive with HP64 FW doesn't have an access to sectors after LBA 67881706. When you run Recover translator it will fail exactly on first unreadible LBA.

Let' s check it with Work with SA -> Translator -> Convert LBA to CHS instrument:

As we see in the log at this cylinder there is a shift in 2 sectors. Let's check P-list entries in this cylinder:

As you see, there is only one entry. That's called a P-list duplication bug.

Solution is simple - delete duplicated defect from P-list and run Recover translator again

In your P-List screenshot I don't see the duplicate defect entry. Is it already deleted before the screenshot was taken? Or do you just delete the defect completely from the P-List and let the translator rebuild find it again? I've yet to see this bug, so I just want to be sure I understand it clearly.

^What he said. I followed everything until the last screenshot (I think it must be the "after" shot).

Very cool though, thank you for sharing Pavel! I love these kind of posts!
