I to all.
I have a very strange problem with this drive.
I power on it and i cannot ear any knock, but the hdd stay in BSY status
Running utility, that say me the drive have Lock Led problem
I try to run first solution for Lock Led, with short circuit the correct PCB point, but in this case the terminal show me some F3> prompt and after i see LED error again. In this way the status remain in BUSY and i cannot go on with the solution. I try more time and i have the same result

After that i try to run solution using motor isolation, but the solution end with Terminal error.

The last try is to download the new seagate firmware from seagate site, but when i run it the upgrade say me "No SATA drive founs" and i cannot update teh firmware.

Please some one can tell me how i can do to solve this lock led problem ?

Thank you to all.

Hi
i think the best option is to try to enter in terminal a try the "busy solution" manually in order to check hdd beaviour.
These HP firmwares are a PITA to enter terminal, when do you short the read channels?
If you can enter terminal and input the commands you can attach log here.
Bye
Luca

Hello,
same problem here.
I tried to solder rom chip to another working pcb, but I got same behaviour.
Don't have enough time to prompt manually any command.
Tried also with pcb unscrewed first, but once it comes ready, don't accept any command at all.
any ideas?
Thank you
Fabio

All HP** Firmwares have disabled terminal access. To reach terminal on these drives you have to download another firmware update from Seagate website and update the drive.
To make the drive reach readinnes you must unscrew the logic board, connect cables, switch on power supply and wait for hard drive readinnes. Then, put the logic board back to drive and launch firmware update.
To make the process safer, you could also unsolder the ROM chip and read its dump from a programmer device, then solder it back to logic board.
All your comments, questions or suggestions about this method are appreciated.

Hi
Dont know if this helps but i have a customer disk here now with this error. I tried the solution where you short out two points on the PCB.
But i found the paperclip for shorting the points to not work. i ended up using a stripped out pice of wire from a power supply. and a small
tweezer to hold it in place.
The moment you get til shorted and press retry you will know because the drive goes "click click click" Even with the wire i think i tried 15-20 times.
Just dont give up

hope this help's

getting terminal by shorting points

I finally got the shorting points trick to work.
Its way easier if you solder the feedthroughs and it protects them.
So I locate the short points.
Then put a little solder ball on each feedthrough.
Now its really easy to short them with any flat piece of metal.
I found that if I wait maybe 0.5 seconds before shorting that worked.

Hi,
I have same problem here. I attempted to update the firmware by Seagate utility in Dos. But, the utility reported errors "Not found the model ST3250310NS" and exit the utility. I also tried to disconnect the PCB and the HDD, it can't read the model correctly and the utility reported errors and exit. Any suggestion? Thank you
TIM

I Have the same issue with all SN05 and SN04 drives. NO terminal access.
Does anyone have a solution to this?

There are next ways for F3 Seagate drives to gain the access to terminal:
1. Isolate the spindle motor chip contacts before turning on the power supply.
Then, power on, enter terminal tab and press ctrl-z. Drive should show you F3 T>
Use recalibration command (T>/2 then 2>U)
2. Short reading channel points right after hard drive startup until the drive will start clicking. Let it click until it will stop spindle motor.
Use ctrl-z and then recalibration command (T>/2 then 2>U). Reading channel points positions are described in F3 Seagate manual.
3. This way is up to running update from Seagate webside. I usually look for the model and run a search on this website
http://knowledge.seagate.com/ to find
fw update.

When I try no. 2, I cannot get access to terminal. I have tried almost everything.
New PCB does not work (with ROM chip replaced)
When I try No .1, I also cannot get terminal access. Nothing I try seems to allow terminal access. Could the ROM be faulty? Can I use ROM from another drive, or will that destroy the data?

Try change COM port in Device manager to COM1 or COM2.

In terminal window if you repower and keep held 'CTRL +Z' do you see 'T>' at all, even for 1 second?
