ST2000LM007-1R8174 FW:EB01 utility compatibility

Postby osity » 06.03.21, 21:36

Is this a Rosewood AF?
Drive was manufactured in 2020. First time I've seen one of these.

If so, my current PC3K software is slightly older and does not list this model. My choices are F3 Arch, A5 Rosewood or, A8 Rosewood. Can I use one of these to unlock it?
My concern is the default ROM sizes each utitliy saves (512 vs 1024).
I don't want to use an incompatible utility in case that causes an issue when I try to write it back.

Does anyone know if I'm OK to use one of these other utilities to save and edit ROM on this family?

Drive:
Mobile HDD 1TB
ST2000LM007-1R8174
FW:EB01
SN: ZDEJEMKY

Thanks for any info!

Yes, I think it's an AF Rosewood...And it have another type of lock , don't know if your current version can unlock it. Try to unlock it and see how it goes.

I wrote the patch to the ROM but it did not offer any handshake option when I repowered it.
It's like nothing changed, unfortunately. So I assume I am limited with this model using the older utilities.

I'm also getting this in terminal:

EDACValue=00000000FFFFF111
EDACValue=00000000FFFFF111
EDACValue=00000000FFFFF111
MCMT table is corrupted
MCMT table is corrupted
MCMT table is corrupted
MCMT table is corrupted
MCMT table is corrupted

Obviously a media cache issue. Is there any advice other than updating my software?

Unfortunately you must unlock somehow the Rom to be able to give some commands in terminal.....
What is the status of ATA registers? Busy? Ready? Or something else?

What if you try to read a user sector? How are the registers now?

Trying to read a user sector in 'Sector edit' results in drive going into BSY status.
Trying to read a user sector in DE with 'PIO mode' sometimes results in the drive going BSY status and sometimes it just gives an error (black sector) and goes back to ready status again.

Patch ROM
if writing patched ROM back fails, write it manually selecting the Patched ROM from your profile folder
IF this still does not offer handshake then this variant of ROM cannot be patched by utility - send to Ace and they will patch for you.
Once patched, you need to send handshake and edit parameters in HDD ID edit or alternatively you may have issue with MCMT - you should check this also.

MC table is damaged. You can clear this to restore access. Some data may be written to MC and not synced to media yet so there is risk of data loss, you can try reading MCMT and exporting extents first, if this exports well you can clear it and re-import. Alternatively, you can clear it without exporting extents and it is possible you may find minor data loss, but it should be very minor (in very very small volume of cases this is an issue)

AJ2008,
Is this possible without using the AF Rosewood utility?
My version is a bit behind and only lists F3Arch, A5, and A8.
I can't seem to patch the ROM to unlock it using these older utilities.

Can I just short this drive manually?

Ok. If you have Ata access try this: power on and after becomes ready try to put it in standby (sleep) . Watch the terminal and pay attention on what it says. It may say something like MC save:PASS. If you are lucky, after repower the hdd , the firmware will wipe the MC area and MCMT table, giving you access to data.

But, BE AWARE! This can cause you to lose some data, as AJ2008 said. So use it on your risk!

Rgds

My Apologies...I mixed up cases. This drive's model number is:

ST1000LM035 Part number: 1rk172-570
FW:EB01
SN: ZDEJEMKY

I don't think it changes any advice given here though.. does it?
It's still Rosewood AF?
