Hello All,

I've just seen in my first ST2000DM006 series HDD with a head failure. I wondered if anyone had any experience on donor part compatibility with these? Inside the failed HDD it uses two platters, using 0,1,2,3. Has anyone seen there much variation in the head-map? Out of interest, how much higher is the areal density in the DM006 vs the DM001?

At this stage I can find some reasonable match donor HDDs at decent prices so will order some in this week.

I've had some time this afternoon to do some testing with some old HDDs and the new ST2000DM006. ST2000DM006 and recent revisions of ST2000DM001 are rather similar, to say the least.

Areal density is the same, or at least close enough. Pre-amp revisions look the same, with donor head compatibility possible - just got the DM006 imaging now The ST2000DM006 patient was manufactured February 2017. The donor used was from a ST2000DM001, manufactured in September 2014. Clearly, Seagate are not changing a great deal!

The disk imaged very well. It was not necessary to import the head-adaptives.

Thanks for the feedback, and boy was my guess wrong
D1 and B6. I don't seem to recall seeing a B6 for a 2TB DM before. Most I see are CB and then B3, D1, and A8.
