ST4000DM000 Fallen Drive

Postby dassiq » 01.07.22, 05:57

Hi All

My first post on this forum, I am a novice who is just getting in to data recovery. I have a 4TB ST4000DM000 drive that was in a running Pc which fell on the floor at height of 3-4 feet. Since the fall, here are the symptoms:

Powers/spins up, drive Beeps once and powers/spins down. DRD and DSC flags are green

When I hooked it up to my PC 3000, it Ids correctly and gets in to 'ready' state , but capacity is being read wrong . Attached Screen shot shows the output from the quick test.

What should be my next steps please, does it need a head assembly swap ?

Best Regards

Dassiq

Sounds like bad read/write heads. No point even powering it on until those are replaced from a compatible donor.

Thanks DateMedics :),, I was thinking the same, but wasn't sure. I was also thinking maybe drive went in to a safe mode as soon it detected a fall. It only beeps once and clicks twice.
