ST31000528AS board replacement...

We have a Seagate ST31000528AS with firmware CC38 that after power on it knocks heads few times and after that stops the spindle motor. After some tests we discovered that the issue could be related to the board because it stay in BSY even when we connect it (without the disk) to the PC3000.
The error messages we see in the terminal view is:

Rst 0x20M
No HOST FIS-ReadyStatusFlags 2002B001

At this point we decide to replace the controller board with a new one (same ID, it worked fine when connected to PC3000 without disk). As written into the documentation we have move the ROM chip from the damaged board to the new one.
Before connecting the new board to the disk we tried again to power on only the board with the PC3000 but we had again the same error message. Now we are quite sure that the problem is the ROM. :shock:

What do you think? What can we try now? :idea:

I'd start by reading the ROM and see what you get.

Well,
100% you are wrong ,The pcb cannot find the host thats the head assembly .Your hard drive has a head issue .If you use donor board + native rom and replace heads its bona be fine
