I have a drive that is BSY, even with the board removed.
I do have terminal access
I have ruled out the board by reading the rom externally and writing to a known good board -- same thing....BSY
I think the only way to update the modules is to modify the rom and re-write it using a USB reader.
What modules do I need to manually write into the rom to make the drive go ready ?
Where are they located in the rom ?
Or is there some other magic that will force the board ready ?

Hello,
The BSY state can be if drive have a software problem:
- pendings
- damaged SA module(s)
- problem with translator/media cache
or hardware problem:
- heads issue
- pcb issue
-scratches on the surface
The steps are depends on terminal report and drive behavior.

Re: ST31000528AS CC3E BSY
If you have terminal and it's always registering as BSY, I'd bet on it being a pending bug. Start by modifying system file 93 to disable all the background processes.
