STM3500320AS Drive fails reading after a few successful reads

I am trying to recover data from a Maxtor DiamondMax 22 - STM3500320AS. The drive takes a while until it becomes ready, when it does I am able to read a few blocks. After that the drive does an ABR and the registers DWF and ERR were also set. My guess at the moment is, that it might be a problem with Head 0, as the problem occurs much more often, when the head is enabled. Power cycling the drive and reading a single block, even the ones marked as bad before, are read successfully after this.

Summary of problems:
* Drive takes long before it becomes ready
* Fails after a few successfull reads, all reads are marked as bad block afterwards

Any ideas to get a better diagnosis and try to fix this problem?

I am also aware of viewtopic.php?f=149&t=7640 and tried to apply these options, as the problem sounds similar.
