Greetings.
Autorecovery method is very useful method to recover data from Maxtor drive. Its main benifit is you can start up the drive from external resources and get the access to surface.
This method works for next CODE versions:
Maxtor N40P
NAR6253Z
NAR63G4Z
NAR62G3Z
NAR6253Z
NAR5730Z
Maxtor Grizzly
HA3D2C6Z
HA432C0Z
Maxtor Sabre
BAH42B7Z
BAJ47Z4Z
NAN5248Z
BAH42B7Z
BAJ47Z4Z
BANC2E0Z
NAN5248Z
Maxtor Calypso
YAR43KJZ
YAR42KJZ
YAR42RWZ
YAR42RWZ
And some other families
KA102V0Z
KA102V0Z
VA11263Z
VA11280Z
If patient code symbols differ from database resources symbols, its ok to use them id there are same letters. Utility selects most compartible resources and they work well.

Re: Autorecovery method : step-by-step manual
First thing, you have to do, is to download autorecovery_3_0.PCR from your update box and import it.(if you haven't done this before)
Drive's jumper position should be set to "safe mode" as it is described in manual
Safe mode jumper positions are described in PC-3000 Maxtor utility manual. Each family has its own position.
Connect PC-3000 cables to drive, power it on and start utility with "Auto recovery" mode selected.
First screen you will see is next:
Usually there is one or two choises. For some families you have to choose year this drive was released.
This option is required for almost all families.
After this
During autorecovery , Maxtor utility will attempt to save all SA modules to local folder.
At this step utility will query you about where you can take SA from.
1st option is will take the modules from drive itself
2nd option will take modules from HDD profile
3rd option let you choose the folder to take the modules from
