Autorecovery mode is used to get access to SA .
Actually - in the best situation it helps you to create a compartible loader for this drive(if the nessesary modules are healthy), that will allow you to reach the surface. Usually it helps us to figure out - are the adaptive modules healthy and if it is possible to read them.

So, this method can be used with drives that have external ROM. If there is no ROM then you need to take it from another good maxtor drive and solder to the pcb.

To enter Autorecovery mode , put the drive to "Safe mode" and start Maxtor utility. Choose Autorecovey from startup utilty window, press "Start utility" and then press "Play button".

Utility will promt you where to save profile of this drive. Then, it will promt you about drive family. Then it will promt you about FW. If there is no same FW is okay to point to same family FW.
With best regards
