MHY / MHZ password removal

Postby avalanche » 22.03.17, 13:08

Hello,

I am aware of the steps as set out in the manual regarding password removal on the MHY / MHZ series HDD. However in practice I am encountering a few problems, and I am unsure whether it simply relates to a poor connection on the terminal connection.

When I set up the drive and terminal connection the "reset passwords" utility launches. The transmit LED (TxD) on terminal PCB flickers red very quickly. The receive LED (RxD) does not make any flashing. With some re-adjustment of the connector I will get the occasional yellow flash on RxD. How long should the unlock via terminal take? I presume it should complete in under 5 minutes? It has been so long since I last saw a Fujitsu in with a password issue, I cannot remember.

To be clear I have also been testing this on a HDD which I know is working normally, and which I have added a password to in PC3000, and can unlock via ATA. I have a customer patient HDD where terminal unlocking is required.

Best regards,
J

OK I figured out the problem:

Poor connection. Then despite PC3000 supporting the MHZ series, the password removal function does not actually work. It is necessary to manually select MHY2...BH tool to password unlock.
