For Toshiba drive families PC-3000 UDMA version has a very convinient method for translator regeneration.
This method works when hard drive can show ID but is not able to clear its G-List. For using it, start Toshiba utility,
minimize it, then start new Data Extractor task. Make sure "make data copy" option is selected.
In this task, you shold go to task parameters, and switch to "command to read" comman. Then select
"Read from active utility" option.
New window will appear, please check my screenshot.
Consider "Logical sectors per physical sector" option is created for drive with their sector size greater than default.
PBA Access is the mode that allows to regenerate translator and load it to RAM.
This method 100% works for all Toshiba drives listed in the utility . If you have some drive with not listed family, it may also work. Try to select family with similar symbols and enter Toshiba utility for that.

Yes, I have used this method twice against my cases, (MK3265GSX and MK5065GSX), and worked successfully. Smoothly copying all sectors without any significant problems.

I tried this on an MK1665GSX. Apparently the Utility Actions are not supported for this drive (nor is "read from active PC3000 Utility" supported).
Is there anything I should try?

I just tried this for the first time on a MK3263GSX. It worked well to restore sector access while on the pc3k. Repowering loses the changes, and G-list still doesn't seem to be fixed on the drive, and doesn't clear properly still...
Is there a way to apply this to the drive so it can be moved / repowered/ continued later?

Hello,
Thanks for feedback.
Reading via active utility - it's good solution, but pay attention to the final data in the Image - some files can be shifted and as result are corrupted.
