Hi Guys,
I got the following USB Toshiba 2.5" drive:
MQ04UBF100
AZA AB21/JU002U
DATE: 28SEP2018 so relatively new drive.
USB PCB Number: G0034A
Does anybody know what is the compatible SATA drive or SATA PCB version?
Thanks
Toshiba USB Compatible SATA HDD

Re: Toshiba USB Compatible SATA HDD
It's not exactly rocket science here. Just replace the "U" in the model number with an "A" and it's the SATA version of the same drive.

Re: Toshiba USB Compatible SATA HDD
i know that mate, that's what i usually do with Toshiba drives, but always prefer to validate it with someone that already tried it for a specific drive to save cost on donor drives. Better to be on the safe side of things.
Re: Toshiba USB Compatible SATA HDD
Hi, I used a PCB with the A but didnt work, maybe is something with the PCB Number?

Re: Toshiba USB Compatible SATA HDD
Hi there,
can be few issues, like FW corruption and faulty heads which are the actual problems with the drive.
Cheers

Re: Toshiba USB Compatible SATA HDD
For G0034A you should use G4311A, so your conversion is correct. If it 'doesn't work (that could mean a million things, does it not spin up? does it spin up but doesn't ID? etc), then something else is the problem.

Re: Toshiba USB Compatible SATA HDD
Perhaps an obvious question to more experienced guys, but given that it's your first post I've got to ask..... did you transfer the ROM chip from patient to donor?

Re: Toshiba USB Compatible SATA HDD
I am a little confused. I have a Toshiba MQ01UBD100 with board G003250A. Every post I find says that board G003138A is the Sata equivilant but on original board there is a IC602 that everyone keeps saying is the ROM chip to swap, but my IC602 is a ST.
IC602 Original Board
2SP40VG
HPAHQ V(and what looks like a backwards Z beside the V)
KOR 4240
ST
IC606 Original Board
25X20BL
1502 03
642B
5Z100
There is a Winbond ic at location IC606 also, and what I have found out it is also a Bios Rom chip. The G003138A that I keep seeing is sata equivilant does not have a IC606 location and the in location IC602 is a Winbond iC and looks to be a 25X40BL
Do I swap the ST ic in location IC602 (original board) with the Winbond ic in location IC602 (in donor board) and not worry about the IC606? Or do I swap the Winbond IC's around?
Or is there a way to solder a SATA connection onto the board like the WD drives? I seen some post of people doing it but cannot find where exactly to solder the A+/A-/B+/B- and 5v lines and if I have to take out the same type of capacitors from the USB line like on the WD drives.
I have been working on electronics for 21 years but I am new to the data recovery scene. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
