I have MK6461GSYG.
Client states that he accidentally locked the drive.
Drive ID OK.
In HDD ID:
Password Set: YES
HDD Locked: YES
Any attempt to read/write to/from disk results in Device Error Detected 51/04 (ABR). That includes attempts to clear password (both from Service Area menu and Tools/HDD menu). Also, can't read ROM, RAM, CP or any sector (always ABR).
The only thing I can read is SMART
No terminal access
I don't believe security will give ABR error. What else can be wrong with the drive and how to proceed?
Any suggestions more than welcome.

1- do you enter from right model?
2-is your terminal cable is ok and responding well?
please send a picture from your Toshiba utility while you entered the model.

Re: MK6461GSYG ID OK, Locked, ABR
I believe I am selecting the correct model, utility selects that one
Terminal access works OK for another Toshiba drive
With this one, when I try to read RAM or ROM via terminal I'm getting
Failed to connect with HDDs COM interface.
Check PC USB Terminal connection,
PC-2 adapter jumper settings,
COM port selection by this utility.
Here is the screen caption of the utility start

As far as I can remember, PW is stored at platters and not PCB? Maybe you can apply a known password to a donor, use hotswap method to swap patient PCB from donor to patient and try to unlock there.
Or enter utility with donor, then power off and power patient while still in utility and follow steps to remove PW
Or, if PW is stored in media, with no PW loaded at donor, hotswap and on recalibration try to read.
I have not had a toshiba with ATA pw on for some time, maybe I overlook something...

Did you work this out? I have the same issue. client powered off and then when powering on, the drive was locked.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: MK6461GSYG ID OK, Locked, ABR
No, I believe it can't be done as drive is on-board encrypted.
It may be possible to find equivalent SATA board without encryption (similar to converting WD USB encrypted to SATA) and recover encrypted image but I'm not sure where to look for encryption key (Toshiba says it's AES-256 algorithm).
Luckily, we don't see many of these (we had only one more, no recovery either).

Has anyone had any luck with these drives? We have 2 in at the moment with the same issue. No terminal access, and no way to unlock the drive.
