HotSpare disk - HS option in Table for RAID Custom - how to use it ?!

Postby Bela » 01.03.16, 09:51

Hello

In Data Extractor RAID buton, on rebuilding RAID - Table we have the option to add a cell to be HS ( HotSpare ).
On some RAID cases the data is spred over the HotSpare disk as well and important information can be recovered from HS disk in order to correct rebuild the folder - file structure.
Can you please explain for us how to add the HoptSpare disk in a RAID rebuild and how to use this option of marking a cell HS in RAID Custom - Table.
Thank you, my best regards, Bela.

Hello Bela,

HotSpare option is added in Matrix for cases where you know that RAID array contains HotSpare drive but don't know RAID configuration and don't know which drive is HotSpare.

For case where you know which drive is HotSpare we advise to build two configuration:
1. One configuration without HotSpare drive
2. Other configuration with HotSpare drive instead of failed member (if you know which drive was failed firstly)

Then compare configurations and define where data is valid.
