what is black color for ?

Postby mojimorady » 14.09.13, 13:28

Hello
my question is : what are black color sectors ?
I saw in "LEGEND" that they are because of loss of readiness , in "PARAMETERS" i changed "commands to read " , "reading retries" , "jump size" , "direction" etc. to change those black color sectors to green but no success achieved .

any suggestion that tells what are they for and how eliminate them would be vry appreciated

best regards

hello my friend
as you mentioned, the black sector appears when the sectors is failed to read.in other words when the head could not read the sector properly.
when you try to access data in the DE it is normal that you see some black sectors and that because of HDA damages or SA problems or...
you didn't mention your HDD model, but we can use utility mode in DE,especially for Toshiba and seagate's.in that case we can see that small bad sector areas appears green instead of black.and that not means that black sectors eliminated.that means by using utility mode in DE we can access to data in some sectors that has problem.

This would help in case of sectors showing red or yellow, for sectors showing black there is some hardware error in reading that specific position. If all sectors read black It could reflect damage to zone table or translator not loaded or even some physical issue.

So you can read only part of the disk? Did you make translator regeneration on this model? Or clear defect lists?
