DE Read from active PC-3000 Utility

Hello, I've had a few cases where a few of the heads on a drive were giving quite a few errors, but all the heads registered as "good" in the utility and DE. When this happens I'll clear the bad/unreadable sectors and in Parameters use the DE "Read from active PC-3000 Utility, and this works! I don't understand what this function is. Is there anyone who can explain what the "Read from active PC-3000 utility" does and why it works? Thanks much, Dave Sr.
