Dear Friends
I HAve a problem that I can't resolve
I have a disc and when I use Data Extractor in it, Data Extractor generates correctly the NTFS but the DOC files, which are those that I need, there're all damaged and they can't be read by Word. I have used:
1. Scan MFT
2. Partition Analysis
3. PArtition Map
4. Search NTFS
And also I have used the analysis of partition and I always get the same problem.
I want to know if anyone of you had the same problem before and how it has solved.
How can I chain different parts of the DOC file?, because obviously it is mixed with other parts of different files, there must be a way to tell the DOC file from where to where it should be considered.
If anyone of you had solved this problem I ask for your help. Thank you.
CarlosAdolfo.

Re: DE and Chain Data
Hello,
To solve this problem U need some basic knowledge on how NTFS works and its structures.
Then it is adviseable to check the FS structure in a hex editor. I would recommend winhex, it is really good and Runtime's DiskExplorer for NTFS is also helpful.
Concerning this very case I suspect U have some translator issue and there are shifts in the FileSystem, that's why files are recovered incorrectly.
But this is only one possibility, we should know more of the original problem to get some ideas...

Re: DE and Chain Data
Hi Pepe
Thanks for your answer.
I'm going to write what I did.
The problem is with a HDD MAXTOR DIAMOND MAX 80 GB.
The PC-3000 UDMA recognize it without problems but Data Extractor doens't find any NTFS structure, with differents DE commands I can get anew structure of the NTFS.
Besides, the fisrt LBA of the disc are with issues (63 to 200.000 take more than 3 hrs. long), making this logic analysis be spend s lot of time, but until reach the 2.000.000 LBA it's able to find son files to RECORD or INDEX. When I said a lot of time I mean like 12 hours to get a new NTFS.
When the new NTFS it's shown, in LOST and FOUND there appear more than 70.000 folders, each of one has more or less than two files, but there is some folders empties (just a folder without any inside).
I reviewed the folders with files "*.DOC" that ara in LOST and Found, and most part of then are with some issues (or damaged) and WORD (Office) can't read then. There is some files in differents formats like "*.DLL).
I can't even use the MOUST option to see the HDD with antier software (may be it doesn't let to execute this option correctly)
So, I can save every file into the disc but this ones, like I said before, are with problems, so isn't very useful to do it, I even used the R-Word Software that is a good application but it doesn't fix them nether.
I'll be very thankful of any advice.

Re: DE and Chain Data
Have you checked if all the modules are ok?
Tried to regenerate translator?
When you look where it was suppose to be the start of the MFT, what do you find?
