Problem Reading Sandisk NANDs SDTNKFHSM-16384

Postby DataMedics » 07.11.18, 19:57

I'm trying to dump a couple NANDs from a CF card with Sandisk controller 20-99-00104-3. The controller chip was cracked in half but the NANDs look physically fine, no cracks or anything like that. I even checked them carefully under a microscope.

The NANDs are typical TSOP-48 with marking of SDTNKFHSM-16384 on them. When I try to read ID of either NAND I keep getting the following error:

I've even tried turning up the power limit to 500ma and it's still getting an overcurrent error.

I've cleaned the contacts a dozen times, polished them, and they are as clean as a brand new NAND. I've even inspected under a microscope to be sure all the pins are visibly aligned under the clamps of the reader, all is good there. I've reseated it hundreds of times. I've tested other NAND chips and they all ID fine so I know the reader and TSOP socket are fine.

Anyone have any ideas why I can't read these chips?

(And yes, I know which way to put it in the reader. I've even tried it the other way just to be sure)

I often get TLGA-52 chips that give this error, but will read in VNR or FE reader.

for TSOP usually I see no issues where other reader will read after PC3K shows this error, but of you try other readers and still get no success then you have to assume there is some short internally that prevents reading - Hopefully Roman can offer some suggestions that may help :D

Well,
Might Be Ship is Short That You Are Getting This Error ,Please Check For Dead Shorts Between VCC And GND In This Chip

Chips couldn't read in FE reader either. After a closer inspection under a better microscope, a few tiny cracks were found. Looks like the chips are just DOA.

If your client got a budget and you got an access to any company who offer BGA inspection they schould be able to make Xray photo - then internal cracks schould be visible

Guys, please note that we are not providing technical support on forum. If you have a troubles with chip reading, it's useless to write your messages on forum. If you want to get a solution and help, and not just tell to the Universe that you've got a problem - better to create a ticket :)
