You should understand that NAND market is grown up and changing every month. A lot of new types of NAND memory chips are appears in the market, a lot of new technologies and architecture features are presents in modern MLC\TLC memory chips. At the same time the number of problems with memory chips is growing up too, and every time our developers and engineers trying to find the best way how to fix them.
For example - when we produce
Flash Reader 1.0 in 2007, we thought that it would be universal reader for NAND chip recovery. And it was. But in
2010 appears a new types of NAND - TLC chips, with different scheme and way of working. That's why developers improve the scheme of reader, add some optimization in reading process and release
PC-3000 Flash Reader v 2.0 SSD Edition (for recovery MLC\TLC NAND chips from SSD drives).
But after 3 years, in 2013, a lot of NAND companies decided to start produce non-typical memory chips with different package like BGA-52, BGA-152, VBGA-100, BGA-132 and so on. Developers decided to add special external socket for plugging adapters - because previously 99% of all chips were only TSOP-48, and such multi-type NAND challenge appears only a few years ago

Finally, in the end of 2015 we can say that all modern
TLC chips produced by
21nm, 19nm, 16nm and 14nm techprocesses (all types, all packages) have very-very bad quality and contain amazingly lot of bit errors. That's why right now, in the most complicated cases, the only way to fix all bit errors - is changing voltage of NAND core supply. So - we release reader
v 4.0 which contain such function. New power control functionality will be very useful with monolithic device recovery, when default voltage 3.3V is not allow NAND core to return data. In that case we should decrease voltage to 2.4 - 2.8V and try to disable integrated controller for normal NAND chip reading.
Basically, if you don't wan't to spend money for upgrade - you can buy Power Control adapter and TSOP-48 adapter for Flash Reader 3.0 additionally. But the complete price will be not much less than upgrade from V 3.0 to V 4.0...
If you want to stay in touch with modern NAND Flash technology, you should have the equipment with the latest optimizations and functionality!
P.S. By the way - we still completely supported all previous models of PC-3000 Flash readers - even v 1.0!

You can update software, and make all cases recovery by yourself without any problems! The only question is - how many chips you will read with old reader?
