Reading in SLC mode

I'm dumping an MLC NAND device where some of the data is stored in SLC mode and other data is stored in MLC mode (which is the default). To switch to SLC mode it involves doing a SET FEATURES to set the SLC Mode Enable (0x91) register to 1 bits per cell (0x0) to put it into SLC mode before reading. Has anyone had success doing something like this? It seems like it could be done with the "Custom operation" option, but so far I've experienced errors trying to do this through that interface... Thanks!
