So I've got an SED locked drive here that's only about 4 months old (literally manufactured this summer). Model is WD20SDZW-11Z3C0 pulled from a WD My Passport.
I can't seem to get any communication over COM port or via USB. I tried replacing the heads and it's still stuck busy, however the original heads work fine in the donor, so I know it's not a heads issue.
Using an external programmer I read the ROM and was even able to edit SA regions in the ROM to shift and block the regions. Now the drive does appear in the list of USB devices in PC-3000 Marvell USB utility, but I still can't get anything to work. I'm hoping there's a way to unlock this stupid SED, but w/o any SA access it's impossible to even begin trying....
Anyone have any experience with these and are willing to share some info?
Is it possible to access SA of WD Model WD20SDZW-11Z3CS0?

It's not leaving my office under any circumstances. So that's out.
I see that MRT has an option to block module 411 in ROM and it's been suggested to me that, that may allow SA access. Now I've just got to get this thing to an MRT system...ugg. I hope Ace adds that feature soon. It's a shame to have to buy a sub-par tool for just one feature.

Very easy to do by hand ... Just "patch" ROM module directory.

No need to buy MRT ...
