Head swap with ST1000LM035 (mobile HDD)

Postby recovery » 19.07.17, 17:36

Hello,

We recently buy a donor for a ST1000LM035 1RK172-568. Exactly same numbers on the label: same PN, same firmware. The hard drive was very different from the customer's drive. One more platter, head map 1,2,3 (customer: 0,1) and... a toe integrated in the chassis, preventing the releasing of the heads arm.

And... Some screws are not Torx (see the topic viewtopic.php?f=154&t=9346).

We keep thinking about a good way to do a head swap with these drives. :shockable: Do you have any tips?

Search for "Video Guide for Sea 2.5 Slim Set" on YouTube and you can see a very good demonstration.

Simple - you do not swap the heads - you swap the platters ;;)

Thank you, so I think we will need this tool, it seems to be mandatory for these hard drives. Thank you for the video.
